Depression and Anxiety

Ease social anxiety; live your life to the fullest!

We at the New York Center for Integrative Health understand that you are more than your physical “self,” condition, or status. For optimal health and treatment, our holistic care team understands the role your mental and emotional states can have on your physical condition. Likewise, your physical health status can either enhance or adversely affect your mental and emotional “self.”

Conditions that transcend the physical, such as depression and anxiety, also come in many forms. Anxiety represents a group of disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder.

Individuals from Mamaroneck, greater Westchester County, and metro New York City appreciate our nuanced approach to partnering with them and improving the persistent fear that those with social anxiety disorder may have in group or public settings.

Social anxiety: The distinctions

It’s estimated that around 12% of American adults will experience social anxiety at some point. The “social” part is what distinguishes this disorder from others in its group. This is more than mere shyness; individuals diagnosed with social anxiety disorder experience prolonged and severe fears of interacting with others in social situations. Frequently, these intense fears originate from equally intense and deep-seated feelings of inadequacy about saying something “embarrassing” or “dumb.” The potential threat of humiliation prevents these patients from living their lives to the fullest; they may withdraw from social activities altogether. Or, they may be merely “present” – not involved, engaged, or active in these settings.

These interactions can also escalate and trigger panic attacks. It is imperative to get to the bottom of your fears and accurately isolate or pinpoint any conditions contributing to your anxiety. Since anxiety increases your risk of developing other conditions, including depression, substance abuse, and poor immune system function (caused by chronic stress), it is also important to quickly and effectively ease anxiety and related stressors. Fundamental to effective treatment is a comprehensive assessment, which considers factors like blood sugar, insulin resistance, hormonal imbalances, and vitamin deficiencies.
